At its heart, the UNCRC protects four key principles:

  • Every child has the right to be treated fairly and without discrimination.

  • Every child has the right to survive and develop to their full potential.

  • Every child has the right to be heard, and to have their opinions respected.

  • Every decision affecting a child must put their best interests first.

For us at Sesame Lane, these principles are not abstract; they shape the way we teach, care, and advocate. They remind us that children have a right to feel safe, to play and learn in environments that respect their dignity and culture, and to be surrounded by adults who listen and respond with compassion.

Our educators actively embed children’s rights into everyday practice through respectful relationships, inclusive learning, and empowering conversations that help children understand their own rights and the rights of others.

The UNCRC is more than an international agreement; it’s a daily guide that inspires us to create spaces where children are not only protected, but truly valued as capable, curious, and powerful participants in their own lives.

The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child includes 54 articles, all listed below. If you are under 18, these rights apply to you. The numbers shown on this page are inspired by artwork created by children themselves.
