Chana Masala
Some dishes feel like a warm conversation around the table, and Chana Masala is one of them. This beloved Indian classic brings together tender chickpeas simmered in a rich, fragrant tomato and spice sauce that fills the kitchen with irresistible aromas. It is hearty, comforting and packed with flavour, making it a beautiful plant based meal that satisfies every time.
Traditionally served with soft roti bread, this dish is perfect for scooping up every last bit of the delicious sauce. If you prefer, it is just as wonderful served over fluffy brown or white rice, which soaks up the spices beautifully and turns the meal into pure comfort in a bowl.

Ingredients
- 2 cups canned chickpeas
- 1 tsp garam masala
- 1 cup diced tomato
- ½ cup coconut milk
- 1 tbs of Canola Oil
- 1 cup of diced onion
- 1 tsp minced ginger
- 1 tbsp minced garlic
- Roti bread or cooked rice to serve (or both!)
Method
Heat a deep pot over medium heat.
Add the oil to the pot and sauté the onions, ginger and garlic until soft and fragrant.
Add the spices and cook for 1 to 2 minutes to enhance the flavour.
Add the tomatoes and coconut milk. Stir well and bring te mixture to a boil.
Add the canned chickpeas and mix thoroughly.
Reduce heat and allow to simmer for 10 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Once heated through and the flavours are combined, remove from heat and serve with Roti Bread and or rice. Enjoy!
